Abbas Kiarostami is the only cinema director and film maker whose name was cited, along with the names of great directors of the world, in the ceremonies marking the centenary of the birth of the cinema.

In the film about the centenary of the birth of the cinema a short film of Kiarostami was included along with the works of 39 other famous directors of the world. The unique creditability and prestige of this Iranian artist in the world of cinema is shown by the fact that he was highly praised by Akira Korosava, the great Japanese director and also by Jean Luc Goddard, the famous French film maker.

This series of articles which makes us familiar with some new names in the analysis and critique of cinema work, is compiled in three parts. The first part entitled "Kiarostami in Panorama" comprises a general and comprehensive review about all the works of the director. There are some writings of the famous Iranian critics, in addition to an interview with Kiarostami and some comments by foreign critics. The second part entitled "Kiarostami in close up", encompasses studies and investigations of his works, from the old documentaries, as far as "Under the Olive Trees". In the third part, entitled "Kiarostami in international festivals and assemblies", references are made to the director's successes in festivals and ceremonies, the prizes that have been awarded to him, as well as to the books and films made about this director.
