Revenues From Non-Oil Exports $ 4.4 Billion Last Year

The total revenues from export of non-oil commodities in the last Iranian calendar year 1373 (March 21, 1994- March 20, 1995) stood at Rls. 7,787 billion, US$ 4.4 billion, it was recently announced.

Some 7.532 Million tons of non-oil commodities were exported last year, up by 40 percent in terms of weight and 15 percent in terms of value co-operate to the preceding year, 1372. Items on top the list of exports included hand-woven carpets, pistachio nuts, steels, chemicals, irons, clothing, live-stocks, raisins, dates and other foodstuff items. Some 33,000 tons of hand-woven woollen and silk carpet were exported last year fetching Rls. 2,929 billion. The carpet exports made up for 38 percent of the total non-oil exports showing an increase of 10 percent in terms of weight and 16 percent in terms of value compared to 1372.

Pistachio exports last year stood at 107,000 tons with a total revenue of Rls. 669 billion. The pistachio nut exports last year which made up for 9 percent of the non-oil export revenues, registered an increase of 8 percent in terms of weight and 4 percent in terms of value compared to 1372.

The next items on top of the list of exports were steel and iron which amounted to 1.362 million tons of exports and 7 percent of the foreign exchange revenues earned from export of non-oil commodities. The exports showed an increase of 4 percent in terms of weight and 17 percent in terms of value compared to 1372. During last year a total of 1.643 million tons of chemicals, 5 percent of total non-oil exports, worth Rls. 386 billion, were exported. In comparison with 1372 the exports were up by 51 percent in terms of weight and 77 percent in terms of value.

Meanwhile, 37.000 tons of iron, 2 percent of the total exports, worth Rls. 143 billion, were exported during the period. The exports were up by 13 percent in terms of weight and 16 percent in terms of value compared to 1372. During the same period iron and aluminum utensil exports registered an increase of 17 percent in terms of weight and Rls 207 billion in terms of value. The exports which amounted to 2.7 percent of total exports showed an increase of 27 percent in terms of weight and 28 percent in terms of value compared to the preceding year.

Furthermore, last year 27,000 tons of hide, worth Rls 198 billion, 13,000 tons of clothing, worth Rls 181 billion, 33,000 tons of meat, 92,000 tons of date, 97,000 tons of raisin and 85,000 tons of foodstuff were exported. In the Iranian calendar year 1373 the busiest customs branch offices handling most of the exports, in terms of weight and value were: Bandar Imam Khomeini and Western Tehran, respectively.
