Ibn-Khaldoon and the Social Sciences; Social Sciences in Islamic Civilization

Tabatabayi, Djavad
SOCIAL SCIENCES
Tehran. Tarh-e-No. 1995. 400 pages.

In this book, the author has tried to study certain aspects of the epistemology and methodology of the new social sciences, and to compare them with the epistemological and cultural foundations of the Islamic civilization with particular attention to the ideas of Ibn-Khaldoon. The author believes that until the foundations of the history of thought in Iran has not been laid bare, any discussion of the history of thought in the contemporary period is nothing but a waste of time. He believes that with the domination of Saljuki Turks over Iran, a certain period started this period can be called the period of stagnation in action and avoidance of thought. The author mainly concerns himself with this avoidance in the Social Sciences and considers the prevalence of sociological ideologies, one of the many consequences of this avoidance. The titles of some of the chapters in this book are: "Ibn-Khaldoon and Tradition", "The Theological Foundations of Ibn-Khaldoon's Sociological Thoughts", "On the Sociology of the Philosophers of the Islamic Period", "The Social Theory of Ibn-Khaldoon", "On the Theoretical Foundations of Social Sciences", "The Theory of Justice in Ibn-Khaldoon's Thoughts", "On Ibn-Khaldoon's Economic Theory".
