Text: According to a report released by Iran's Customs Administration, a total of 11,353,000 tons of non-oil commodities, valued at 4,974.6 billion rials ($2,834.5 million) were exported to other countries during the first 11 months of 1378 (March 1999- March 2000) through the Customs Administration, showing increases of 9.2% and 5.1% in terms of weight and value respectively compared to the preceding year. Some 831,000 tons of non-oil commodities, valued at $216.9 million were exported during the Iranian month of Bahman 1378 (Jan. 2000- Feb. 2000), showing decreases of 29.7% and 19.5% in terms of weight and value respectively compared to the preceding year.
Considering the monthly operation of non-oil exports during the first 11 months of 1378 and also the fluctuation of the value of monthly exports in the said period, it is concluded that the 19.5% decrease in the value of exports during Bahman was the highest in the said period which resulted in a limited growth of 5.1% in terms of value during the first 11 months of 1378 while the growth rate of exports in the first 10 months of 1378 was 7.8%.
The most important exported commodities in terms of value during the first 11 months of 1378 out of a total of $2.8 billion of exports are as follows: hand-woven carpet with 22.8% and $645m, chemical products with 11.5% and $326m, pistachio and pistachio nuts with 10.4% and $294m, ironware and steel with 5.7% and $161m, copper manufactures with 3.2% and $90m, gases with 2.6% and $75m, clothes with 1.6% and $44m, hide and pickled hide with 1.4% and $40m, benzene with 1.4% and $36m, raisin with 1.2% and $35m, plastic products and melamine with 1.2% and $33m, intestine with 1.1% and $32m, and saffron with 1.1% and $30m.
The 13 above-mentioned exported commodities constituted 51.7% and 65.2% of non-oil exports in terms of weight and value respectively during the first 11 months of 1378. The value of four exported commodities including pistachio, chemical products, gases and benzene were decreased by 16.4%, 18%, 42%, and 7% respectively while the value of the 9 remaining commodities were increased.
Among 131 non-oil commodities listed in Iran's Customs Administration's report which was the basis for the assertion of weight and value of non-oil exports in the first 11 months of 1378 (Apr. 1999 - Nov. 2000), the value of some 48 commodities were decreased in 1999 compared to the preceding year which resulted in a $317.8m negative impact on the total value of non-oil exports during the first 11 months of 1378 (Apr. 1999 - Nov. 2000). The value of 83 commodities increased during the said period in comparison to 1998 and caused a $451.4m negative impact on the value of non-oil export of the country.
The value of exported goods in the first 11 months of 1378 (Apr. 1999 - Nov. 2000) dropped to $249.7 per ton from $259.9 in the preceding year, showing a 3.7% decrease. Considering the share of value for four main groups of non-oil export commodities, it is concluded that the value of industrial goods decreased to 48.5% in 1999 from 52% in 1998 while the value of handicrafts and hand-woven carpets increased to 24.8% in the first 11 months of 1378 (Apr. 1999 - Nov. 2000) from 20.6% compared to the same period in the preceding year.
